Keep scrolling to check out our other selections.
Kendrick Lamar – “Rich Spirit”
Dave Free, Calmatic, and Kendrick Lamar team up for the video for “Rich Spirit” off of Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The energy of dance engulfs the clip, but there are a few riveting emotional moments too where Kendrick is seen alone inside of a home while a phone is ringing. We wonder if that’s an acknowledgment of outside opinions he chooses to ignore. The entire video further explores how the rapper is often contemplating his innermost thoughts.
Ab-Soul, Fre$H – “Gang’Nem”
Ab-Soul’s “Gang’Nem” visual has an introspective feel, it also presents the vantage point of his neighborhood in Los Angeles from his perspective. Through his eyes, we catch a glimpse of his friends, a neighborhood basketball court, a local tattoo shop, and also the streets that he spent time on over the years.
Westside Gunn – “Mac Don’t Stop & Nigos Louis”
Almost a month ago Westside Gunn released his latest album 10, now he’s dropped off his newest dual video for “Mac Don’t Stop” and “Nigos Louis.” The clip encapsulates what he’d like to be remembered for: fashion, jewelry, music, and his wordplay. Cinematic moments are captured inside of homes, inside jewelry shops, and near gas stations. Overall, the second half of the clip thoroughly represents his roots.
Lola Brooke – “Here I Come”
Lola Brooke’s “Here I Come” is a swift-paced video that centers on her gritty and fiery rhymes. Though it’s a quick one, she manages to keep her energy high for the entirety of the clip. The direction that was taken for the video also makes sense since she’s mainly become known for her freestyles that go viral whenever she drops them.
Nas – “Michael & Quincy”
Nas’ “Michael & Quincy” is sleek, dimly lit, and creative performance video. Undertones of red and blue paint a picture of intensity and also a feeling of sincerity respectively. A plethora of close-up shots emphasizes Nas’ costume design, mainly darker tones such as black and blue. One scene in this clip sticks out: when Nas is inside a studio wearing an eccentric hat, it’s filled with energy. This one arrived today, but it’s worthy of adding to our list.
