Gangsta Boo, 43,  was pronounced dead on Jan. 1. She was found on the porch of a Whitehaven home in her stomping ground of Memphis, Tenn., around 4:00 p.m. Boo allegedly passed from an overdose, according to early reports.

Her last Instagram post was her sharing footage of past performances and her time spent with close friends.

“Some of the things I did in 2022! So fun and productive…Happy New 2023 everyone,” she captioned the video.

Love and support from the hip-hop community have begun pouring in to honor the late legend.

“Damn queen we were locked in,” Ty Dolla $ign commented on the video.

“Rest peacefully,” Missy Elliott tweeted.

Fellow Three 6 Mafia rappers DJ Paul and Juicy J shared their tributes to GangstaBoo as well.

Mitchell began rapping at the age of 14 and often participated in her school’s talent show. She was soon discovered by the hip hop collective Three 6 Mafia at one of the shows and went on to become a prominent figure in the Southern hip hop scene.

Her solo work, including the albums Inquriring Minds and Both Worlds *69 rose to the top of the Billboard 200 charts; the former featuring the smash hit “Where Dem Dollas At”.

After joining Three 6 and releasing her fair share of solo work, the Queen of Memphis went on to work with many other artists including La Chat who was the second female member of Three 6, Run the Jewels, Eminem, GloRilla, and Latto.

SOHH linked with the Queen back in April 2014. She gushed on her collaboration album with La Chat on “Witch”.

“I feel like it describes me to a tee,” Gangsta Boo told SOHH. “I consider myself as a horrorcore rapper and a hardcore rapper. I love to rap the way I do because it’s like watching a horror movie. I’m the actress you see in the scary movies and that’s what I portray in my music. The title ‘Witch’ just comes from a dark place. We got a sinister sound and there’s a cult following. You’re going to get a lot of dark beats, you’re going to have some crunk sh*t, it’s going to be some gangsta horrorcore Boo and La Chat sh*t.”

Hip-hop has said goodbye to many rappers over the years, but it is usually premature. Popular 90s rapper Coolio sadly passed away at the age of 59.  The news was reported by his longtime manager, Jarez Posey.

According to the New York Times, Posey said the “Gangster’s Paradise” rapper was at a friend’s house when he didn’t come out of the bathroom for a while.
