The Memphis artist who goes by Mac Critter was arrested in connection to a murder committed in late December. Police say the 25-year-old, whose real name is Daniel Bates, fatally shot a man on December 29.

Mac was arrested along with his two brothers, Danterio Owens and Gary Taylor. According to his lawyer, he is innocent.

Critter signed to Gucci’s label in October 2022. So far, it appears it may not have been a good year for Guwop, who recently just lost artist Big Scarr to an overdose just days before Christmas.

Gucci’s artist Hotboy Wes was arrested twice last year for robbery and possession of marijuana. He was released on bond for both offenses. The amount of tragedy the 1017 Records artists have been facing sparked debates and conversations from fans wondering if Gucci’s label is cursed.

“Critter has been rapping for so long … to be on this type of shit after he finally got signed is crazy,” said one user on Twitter.

When it comes to discovering new artists, the rapper-turned-record executive isn’t afraid to look behind bars either. Gucci Mane recently shared that he would be willing to sign incarcerated Louisiana rapper B.G. for $1 million.

Although for Mac Critter, his fate will be decided next week when he appears in court. His attorney remains positive about him getting a bond.

Gucci Mane made the ultimate callout by putting President Biden and VP Harris on blast for the mistreatment of prisoners. More specifically, he spoke up for homie and fellow recording artist Pooh Shiesty

“Pooh has been sent to a prison over 1500 miles from his home, 24-hour lockdown, and given empty food trays, ” the new 1017 Records founder said on Twitter.
