During the fall of 2022, Kanye West took to Instagram and targeted Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson with a derogatory remark. He posted a photo of Karefa-Johnson, captured by professional photographer Michaela Efford, accompanied by the comment:

“This is not a fashion person. You speak on Ye, Ima speak on you. Ask Trevor Noah.”

The photo utilized by Ye in his Instagram post was originally taken by Michaela Efford for non-commercial purposes. However, West repurposed the image to express his displeasure towards Karefa-Johnson, who criticized his t-shirts slogan, “White Lives Matter.”

The Vogue editor deemed the slogan “dangerous and irresponsible,” provoking the Chicago native’s cyber-bullying response.

Michaela Efford, the photographer who captured the image, claims that Ye did not have permission to use her photos for his offensive comments. The extent of the lawsuit against the rapper is yet to be determined.

In other legal matters involving Kanye West, he is facing a lawsuit after allegedly throwing a photographer’s phone in anger.

Additionally, Gap has recently declared that Kanye West is responsible for covering its lawsuit expenses.

In a related legal case, superstar rappers Drake and 21 Savage have resolved a lawsuit concerning a fake Vogue magazine cover while promoting their collaborative album, Her Loss.
