Allow Us to Re-Introduce Ourselves
Fourth of July festivities just won’t hit the same for Kendrick Lamar this year after his new comedy film set to debut that day has been delayed until 2026.
On Monday (March 31), Paramount announced that the movie has been moved from July 4, 2025 to March 20, 2026, according to Deadline. The studio has been keeping details on the closely guarded movie under wraps. While no specific reason for the delay was provided, it’s likely because K-Dot will be traveling around the world for the next five months on the Grand National Tour with singer SZA. The West Coast MC’s first show kicks off April 19 in Minneapolis and commences Aug. 9 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Kendrick has been rumored to star in the live-action comedy about a young Black man who interns as a slave reenactor at a history museum and comes to find out that his White girlfriend’s ancestors owned his ancestors. Paramount hasn’t given the people so much as a hint on the cast nor a title despite the talk on social media that it’s called Whitney Springs. So, there’s no telling how K-Dot will show up on the big screen. What can be confirmed is that he, pgLang cofounder Dave Free and South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are teaming up on the project.
Longtime friends and collaborators Free and Kendrick will produce the project through their company pgLang, while Parker and Stone are producing under their media and entertainment enterprise Park County. Stone said K-Dot is very involved in the picture as is Dave Free and it will be a funny flick.
As Kendrick heads out on the road for his highly anticipated tour, he’s fresh off Grammy wins, a Super Bowl performance and having both his song “Luther” with SZA (for six consecutive weeks) and GNX album grab hold of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts. With a new movie to work on once the performance trek comes to an end, he’s certainly living up to the boastful lyrics of “Not Like Us.”
