A remake of “Yamz” by Masego and Devin Morrison, the new Fetty Wap track “Sweet Yamz” has become a viral sensation during the holiday season.

Fetty Wap won Thanksgiving. Although the 31-year-old is currently incarcerated, Fetty Wap, real name Willie Junior Maxwell II caught a holiday vibe on “Sweet Yamz,” a remake of the 2021 Masego and Devin Morrison track “Yamz.” To coincide with “Sweet Yamz,” Wap funded a Thanksgiving groceries giveaway in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey.

“I’m very grateful for my fans and for my community because I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” the rapper said in a statement for his “Sweet Yamz” Thanksgiving giveaway. “Giving back, especially in my hometown, is very important to me no matter what the circumstances are. Even though I can’t be there in person, shout-out to every single one of my fans, supporters, and everyone that’s still rocking with me!”

After the New Jersey-raised artist heard the original version of “Yamz,” he remade it as a special “Zoomix.” The song also marks Maxwell’s first release as a lead artist since 2021.

“I really connected with the original song ‘Yamz’ from the first time I heard it earlier this year,” he commented. “It makes me think of one of my favorite cities, Miami. I immediately knew I wanted to flip it and had to do a Zoomix!”

Currently facing five to nine years in prison, Maxwell plead guilty to a drug charge in August, admitting that he conspired to sell cocaine. In 2021, Maxwell was arrested before his Rolling Loud New York performance, pleading not guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances. Maxwell was one of six people charged in the case, alleged with being a part of a drug ring that distributed heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and crack throughout Long Island and New Jersey.
