Jay-Z claims the now-dismissed rape lawsuit against him caused him to miss out on nearly $200 million.
On Monday (May 5), Jay-Z’s lawyers filed an amended lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee and the anonymous woman who accused the rapper of rape last year. In addition to now claiming Buzbee directed employees to edit Wikipedia pages to enhance Buzbee’s image and damage Hov’s and Roc Nation’s reputations, Jay added another attorney, Antigone Curis, as a defendant. Jigga now also claims he lost out on $190 million in revenue and loans due to the controversy.
“Roc Nation and Mr. Carter lost other contracts in the sports and entertainment space that would have generated revenues of, at least, $20 million, representing a minimum fee guarantee, while the full fee would have been many millions of dollars higher had the contract been performed,” the filing reads.
The suit also alleges Jay-Z was denied a $55 million personal loan and Roc Nation was denied a $115 million business loan due to the false allegations.
Jay-Z sued Buzbee and his accuser for defamation last November after learning that the attorney was planning on representing the woman who eventually filed a lawsuit last December accusing the Roc-A-Fella cofounder of raping her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty when she was 13-years-old in 2000. The accuser’s case was dismissed in February. However, Buzbee has filed a countersuit against Jay-Z, claiming the Brooklyn, N.Y., rapper bullied him and paid people to sue Buzbee.
Jay-Z is seeking a trial by jury and is looking to get unspecified punitive and actual damages.
Hip-hop came out with a win in some way in these cases.
