2021 XXL Freshman Rubi Rose is currently working on the follow-up to her 2022 debut mixtape For The Streets, and like many musicians of her generation she began to take inspiration from tracks and pop culture references from her childhood. That is on full display in her latest offering, “Wifey.”

The single itself samples N*E*R*D’s 2001 (or 2022, depending on which version of In Search Of… you prefer) single “Lapdance.” Meanwhile, the video takes cues from the video, as well as Missy Elliot’s “Gossip Folks” and… what appears to be that one Carl’s Jr. commercial where Paris Hilton was washing a Bentley. If you vividly remember watching any of those references when they first came out, congrats: you’re old like me!
